Kentucky-based band Wayne Graham is heading to the UK this November for three highly anticipated shows in Nottingham, Manchester, and London. These performances are part of their ongoing European tour in support of their newly released album ‘Bastion,' available now via Hickman Holler Records/Thirty Tigers.
‘Bastion' is the band’s ninth studio album, featuring brothers Kenny and Hayden Miles, along with José Oreta and Germany-based instrumentalist Ludwig Bauer. Known for pushing the boundaries of the New Appalachian Sound, ‘Bastion' combines traditional influences with avant-garde experimentation, featuring synths, clarinets, and innovative production techniques.
Critics have been quick to praise the album’s inventive sound. Magnet Magazine described the track ‘We Could’ve Been Friends' as having a “quirky Southern Boogie” and American Songwriter commended the band for their seamless blending of indie, jazz, and Appalachian tradition across the album’s nine tracks.
Themes of isolation, familial tension, and the passage of time permeate ‘Bastion,' with standout tracks like ‘A Silent Prayer,' a psychedelic-tinged rocker, and ‘Swingin’ Round,' a song born from frustration over Kentucky and Tennessee's drag bans. Despite their deep connection to their Kentucky roots, the Miles brothers admit to feeling increasingly alienated from the values of their small-town upbringing.
