‘Transformers One’: spotlight on producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura

When we think about all of the previous ‘Transformers' films, one name automatically comes to mind; Lorenzo Di Bonaventura. Lorenzo is known as the producer of the Transformer films and it is no different that he is the producer of the latest ‘Transformers One' film, directed by Josh Cooley.

Although Lorenzo is known for his producing credits on other film titles such as ‘Four Brothers', and ‘G.I. Joe', Keanu Reeves' cult classic ‘Constantine', the fourth sequel to ‘The Hunt for Red October', and ‘Madame Web', he is well known as the super producer of all transformers films.

To celebrate the fact that we are days away from the most anticipated animated feature film of the year, this feature will explore his connection to the franchise and explore the fact that this is the first time Lorenzo has been involved in animation.

Lorenzo produced the first ‘Transformers' film in 2007 which was directed by Michael Bay and followed suit with ‘Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen', ‘Transformers: Dark Of The Moon', ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction' and ‘Transformers: The Last Knight' all of which were directed by Michael Bay. In 2018, ‘Bumblebee' was released with a fresh new director Travis Scott and ‘Creed 2' director Steven Caple Jr produced last year’s ‘Transformers: Rise Of the Beasts'.

This year’s ‘Transformers One' which is directed by ‘Toy Story 4' director Josh Cooley dives into the origin story of Cybertron and provides the back story between Optimus Prime and Megatron, how they went from being best friends to sworn enemies – making it the first animated ‘Transformers' movie in 40 years and Lorenzo’s first animation film EVER! The cast includes Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 (Bumblebee) and Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1.

Lorenzo stated during the San Diego Comic-Con panel that this would be his first time being involved in animation and was extremely happy that the film was being done in animation as it allowed him and Josh the possibility to create a new world that has never been seen before, making the film overall feel organic and allowing the film itself to explore Cybertron’s origins in new ways. The staggering visuals in this film allowed Lorenzo, Josh and their team to push the envelope in terms of camera movement and the physics of the Cybertron world, making the film a deeply immersive experience!

According to early reviews that were published off of the back of this film including a standing ovation at its early screening at Annecy International Animation Film Festival and already being hailed as “Easily one of the best movies of the year” it seems like this new animation will take you on a rollercoaster indeed!

‘Transformers One' will be showing in UK cinemas from Friday 11th October so take your friends, family or even yourself on a cinema date to experience this phenomenon of an animation film!
