Jamie Borthwick is the tenth celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand new series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Borthwick rose to fame for his portrayal as Jay Brown/Mitchell in the BBC continuing drama ‘EastEnders’ which he has starred in since 2006. He is now one of the longest serving actors on the show. In 2008 his role in ‘EastEnders’ earned him a British Soap Award for ‘Best Dramatic Performance from a Young Actor’, he then went on to win ‘Best Actor’ at the Inside Soap Awards in 2023. Borthwick won the 2023 ‘Strictly Come Dancing Christmas' special.
Borthwick says: “I had a ball doing the ‘Strictly' Christmas special last year, so when I was asked to join for this series it was the easiest yes! This is a fresh challenge and it will be so different to be learning a new dance every week and for the public to have their say. I’m hoping to be Salsa-ing around Albert Square in no time and I’ll be asking my Walford Strictly alumni for some words of wisdom. See you on the dancefloor!”
The news was revealed this afternoon (Thursday 8th August) on Matt and Mollie’s Show on BBC Radio 1.
Borthwick joins a line-up that includes comedian Chris McCausland, JLS star JB Gill, opera singer Wynne Evans, singer and actress Toyah Willcox, media medic Dr. Punam Krishan, model and TV personality Tasha Ghouri, reality star Pete Wicks, actor and singer Shayne Ward and actor and singer Sarah Hadland. More celebrities will be revealed in the coming days.
‘Strictly Come Dancing' will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer this autumn.
