Acclaimed musician and actor Sam Palladio has announced his debut album ‘The Perfect Summer’s Day, Before We Lost The Light' set for release on September 13, 2024. Fans can pre-order the album here.
Palladio introduced his new record with the single ‘Meanwhile In London.' The track showcases his warm, earthy vocals, harmonies that shine amidst grand strings and horns, and an irresistible melody that carries the chorus. The song reflects on his transatlantic career, which took off in America when he starred as Gunnar Scott in the TV series Nashville.
“I wanted to make a record opener that spoke to who I am,” Palladio shares. “This is my experience of being a British guy who spent a long period in the States and fell in love. I was traveling so much, missing home and wondering what that person was doing and getting all those intrusive thoughts.”
The album title ‘The Perfect Summer’s Day, Before We Lost The Light' is drawn from the touching pop ballad ‘Something On My Mind.' Released last year, the song is inspired by the passing of Palladio's mother, Sally. “I wanted to dedicate the album to mum,” Palladio says. “The lyric, ‘there’s something on my mind, it haunts me every night, the perfect summer's day, before we lost the light,’ symbolises mum being the light of our lives, and the darkness once it fades. It reminds me of youthful summer days on Cornish beaches but also carries the dichotomy of loss. Ultimately, it allows her to live forever through song.”
‘The Perfect Summer’s Day, Before We Lost The Light' highlights Palladio’s lifelong connection to music, blending heartland Americana with his rock influences like Incubus, Rage Against The Machine, and Biffy Clyro. While in Nashville, Palladio met Biffy Clyro at a show and later collaborated with Simon Neil, who helped write a song for Palladio’s character's final episode on Nashville. Their collaboration continues on the album with ‘Spill Your Heart,' a laid-back anthem featuring Palladio and Neil’s smooth vocals and lush acoustic guitars.
‘Tennessee,' another track from the album, is a rollicking bar-room anthem with scorching riffs from Foo Fighters' Chris Shiflett. Palladio notes, “What Chris did was a perfect blend of his crunchy Foos thing, with a little bit of his chicken-picking country guitar, because his sensibilities are country, and he loves that world. I was thrilled he was happy to put his name to this project.”
The album was completed in Los Angeles with Grammy-winning producer Dave Sardy, who added additional production and brought in musicians like Matt Chamberlain and Jason Faulkner. “We had done a lot of the groundwork in Nashville, and then this little bit of California stardust was sprinkled through,” says Palladio.
After years in the acting spotlight, including his role as Joe Strummer in the biopic ‘Bob Marley: One Love' Palladio is now ready for his musical close-up with ‘The Perfect Summer’s Day, Before We Lost The Light.' The album captures Palladio’s essence, offering a transparent look into his life, thoughts, and feelings.
