10 game releases to watch out for in August 2018

There was a good mix of gaming titles released in July. My pick of the games launched last month was No Man’s Sky which came to the Xbox One for the first time. Hello Games also released a huge patch across all platforms which really improved the game.

August has plenty of new titles on the way to keep gamers busy and I was actually spoilt for choice as to what to choose this month. As usual there are big releases across all the major platforms and enough variety on offer for all types of players.

Of all of these, I’m most looking forward to World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth which is the 7th expansion to the game. I’m also really excited to check out Monster Hunter World on PC and Shenmue 1 & 2.

Here’s a full list of my 10 games to watch out for in August 2018:

Please note that the dates mentioned are the currently expected UK release dates and subject to change, dates for other regions may vary.

August 1st

Yakuza 0 (PC)

SEGA’s best selling masterpiece finally comes to PC. The game has been remastered with up to 4k resolution and uncapped framerates. It was first released in Japan on PS3 back in 2015 and has since made it’s way to PS4.

August 7th

Overcooked 2 (Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One)

The chaotic co-op cooking game returns for a sequel. The Onion Kingdom is in peril again and this time it is the fault of the Onion King himself! The Kingdom is under attack from an army of undead bread called The Unbread. Overcooked 2 adds online multiplayer for the first time.

Hearthstone – The Boomsday Project (PC, iOS, Android)

Join Dr. Boom’s team of brilliant scientists for the latest expansion to Hearthstone. Featuring 135 new cards, legendary spells and a new single-player puzzle mode.

August 9th

Monster Hunter World (PC)

Capcom’s best selling console game ever is finally making the jump to PC. Hunt alone or in co-op with up to three other players, and use materials collected from fallen foes to craft new gear and take on even bigger, badder beasts.

August 10th

We Happy Few (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

After a long time in early access, We Happy Few is almost here. It’s a survival roguelike that tells the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who have their own set of not-so-normal rules.

August 14th

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth (PC)

In this 7th expansion to World of Warcraft, tensions between the Alliance and Horde have erupted, and a new age of war has begun. Level your characters up to the new cap of 120 and recruit allies to fight with you. New features include 20 player co-op Warfronts, new Dungeons and Raids, new Zones and cross-realm social groups.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

In this gripping, emotional final season, you will define your relationships, fight the undead, and determine how Clementine’s story ends. After years on the road facing threats both living and dead, a secluded school might finally be her chance for a home.

August 21st

Shenmue 1 & 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Regarded as one of the greatest game series of all time, the Dreamcast classic is finally getting a remastered release. Follow a gripping story of retribution as Ryo Hazuki sets out to avenge his father’s death and attempts to unravel the secrets behind a mysterious artefact known as the Dragon Mirror.

Guacamelee! 2 (PC, PS4)

Seven years after defeating Carlos Calaca, Juan Aguacate is forced to don his luchador mask again to face a new threat – this time to the very fabric of space and time. The sequel from Drinkbox Studios looks even more crazy than the first game and that can only be a good thing.

August 28th

Strange Brigade (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Developed by Rebellion (Sniper Elite), Strange Brigade is a co-op adventure for 1-4 players set in the 1930s. Survive against overwhelming odds with your fellow players while taking advantage of a variety of weapons, traps and even supernatural powers.
