Mackenzie Carpenter and Midland team up for flirty new duet ‘I Wish You Would’

Rising country star Mackenzie Carpenter has joined forces with GRAMMY-nominated trio Midland for a charming and flirtatious new duet, ‘I Wish You Would,' out today via The Valory Music Co. With its twangy guitars, steady drumbeats, and undeniable chemistry, the track transports listeners to a smoky country dive bar where two patrons can’t ignore the spark between them.

Co-written by Carpenter, Jonathan Hutcherson, Jamie Moore, and Chris Tompkins, the song brims with anticipation as the couple in question secretly hopes the night will never end. “It’s about wanting someone to be more forward, quit guessing, and make the first move,” Carpenter explains. “Midland has always been a dream collaboration, and they bring a smooth, classic vibe to the song.”

Midland’s Mark Wystrach echoes that sentiment, calling the track “pure country gold.” “I loved ‘I Wish You Would’ from the jump when Mackenzie and Jamie Moore sent it our way. When I went to lay my part, I was thrown back in time to the era of Conway and Loretta, Kenny and Dolly—those iconic duets. The melodies are hypnotic, and the soaring hook keeps you coming back for more.”

The new duet follows Carpenter’s buzzworthy single ‘Dozen Red Flags,' which MusicRow called “sardonic and really, really fun.” It also comes on the heels of her much-anticipated debut album ‘Hey Country Queen' arriving March 7. Described by American Songwriter as an album that “promises more of what has earned her recognition so far: wit, relatability, and an ability to write a killer melody,” the project offers a deeper look into Carpenter’s artistry.

With 13 tracks co-written by Carpenter and contributions from country songwriting heavyweights Liz Rose, Nicolle Galyon, and Jessie Jo Dillon, ‘Hey Country Queen' pays homage to the country queens who inspired Carpenter’s journey—while showcasing her unique voice, confidence, and sharp storytelling.
