Alana Springsteen, the rising star from Columbia Records/Sony Music Nashville, has captured hearts once again with her appearance on NPR Music's Tiny Desk Concert series. This performance, recorded live at the NPR Music headquarters, highlights her artistry and talent, further cementing her place in the country music scene.
Springsteen first gained attention with her debut album’s title track, ‘twenty something,' which was featured on NPR Music’s ‘The Best Songs of 2023' list in All Songs Considered. Now, her performance at the Tiny Desk Concert showcases her ability to captivate an audience with stripped-down, authentic renditions of her music.
Reflecting on the experience, Springsteen shares, “I grew up studying Tiny Desk Concerts. I’d memorize them and dissect the creative decisions and departures that were made from the original versions of the songs. They were always the most inspiring display of artistry to me. No production, effects, or tracks to hide behind. Just yourself, your band, and your God-given talent. I think that’s why Tiny Desk is as revered as it is by artists and fans.”
She adds, “In a world where there’s so much noise and it’s so easy to fake perfection, it’s a platform that removes the possibility of inauthenticity. I’m still completely shook that I got to play it. I spent a lot of time dreaming up these arrangements with some of the best players I know. I’m grateful to Gideon Klein, Alec Parrish, Josh Beatty, and Daniel Cooper for being by my side for this performance. I definitely hid all sorts of guitar picks, capos, and personal items all over that set to prove I had been there. To the NPR Music team, thank you for believing in my songs and hearing the intent behind them. You made a little girl’s dream come true.”
Springsteen’s set included songs from her critically acclaimed debut album ‘TWENTY SOMETHING.' She performed the title track along with ‘ghost in my guitar,' a collaboration with Chris Stapleton, which was named one of the “25 Nashville Songs That Tell the Story of 2023” by The Tennessean. Additionally, she premiered an unreleased track titled ‘feels good' and delivered a solo rendition of her latest collaboration, ‘Hot Honey' with GRAMMY® Award-winning DJ/producer Tiësto.
NPR Music praised her performance, stating, “She showed up ready to make it count, with a carefully arranged setlist she delivered in an impossible-to-miss, bright red, leather suit, backed by an incredible band.”
Springsteen co-wrote all the songs and co-produced nearly all tracks on ‘TWENTY SOMETHING' which is comprised of three installments: Messing It Up, Figuring It Out, and Getting It Right, along with a DELUXE edition released in 2023. Her talent for honest and fearless storytelling, combined with her dedication to her craft, shines through in every performance.
