In a divided Germany, two women will search for their roots in a moving, exhilarating and life-affirming story.
East Berlin, 1988, the year before the fall of the Berlin Wall. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Republic, a big birthday show is being rehearsed at the Friedrichstadt-Palast. In these exciting hours, young dancer Christine (Svenja Jung), a revue dance in the famous ‘Kick Line’, has a chance to get her long-awaited first solo. Her life is suddenly turned upside down as she finds herself face-to-face with a doppelganger. In the audience sits Marlene, a young businesswoman from West Germany, sent to go to the GDR Foreign Trade Ministry for negotiations. The twin sisters are profoundly stunned: Why didn't they know about each other? What happened that separated them?
To find out all about their respective lives in the East and the West, the two sisters will swap passports and identities to visit each other’s families, bringing enormous risks given the political circumstances. As the series unfolds the sisters try to find out what led to their separation and discover that they have more in common than their very different upbringings might suggest.
