Natalie Imbruglia unveils new album ‘Algorithm’

Natalie Imbruglia will release new album ‘Algorithm' on 4th September 2026, and today she's unveiled the lead single ‘Upside Down'.

‘Algorithm' is Imbruglia's first album in five years and it users in a new era. The album is described as sophisticated pop and disco with the house leanings of Robyn.

Imbruglia says, “On this record I chose to work with collaborators who also co-produce so from start to finish we were all so invested in every song. I really hope that people get as much joy from listening to this record as we did making it. And that they dance their arses off.

This was by far the most fun I’ve ever had making a record. It also happened to coincide with the most challenging time I’ve had with my mental health. This is the beauty of music and artistic expression. You can take something dark and turn it into light.”

‘Upside Down' opens with a flourish of bright synths and energetic percussion. As she reaches the chorus, it grows brighter – kaleidoscopic, shimmering – and we hear her relinquishing control, and ultimately finding clarity in a song which came from a feeling of shame surrounding her mental health.

She explains, “The inability to control my emotions, wrestling with fight or flight mode, was awful, and I was reaching this critical point with it. In a way, the song is about how sheer willpower – trying to force your way out of something – doesn’t always work. You need tools, support. So that’s where the song was born from, that fight to maintain a semblance of what some might consider normality.”

For ‘Algorithm' Imbruglia has co-produced and co-written every song on the record, with production/songwriting collaborators including MyRiot (London Grammar), David Sneddon (Lana Del Rey, Hurts), Fraser T Smith (Adele, Dave, Stormzy, Sam Smith), Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, Anu Pillai (Lewis Capaldi, Declan J Donovan), Tobie Tripp (George Ezra), Mark Crew (Bastille, James Arthur) and Dan Priddy (Rag'n'Bone Man, Bastille).

‘Algorithm’ is available to pre-order / pre-save. The album will be available on CD, Deluxe CD, vinyl, deluxe vinyl and all digital platforms.

Imbruglia will follow the release of ‘Algorithm’ with select summer festival dates. She will headline App-Fest and Replay, and also play In It Together and Lazydays in the UK as well as shows in Spain, Sweden and Mexico. Expect details of more live events to be announced soon.
