Karen Hauer to star in ‘Stepping Out’ UK tour heading to the Churchill Theatre Bromley

Karen Hauer is set to lead a brand-new revival of ‘Stepping Out', with the production touring the UK this summer and stopping at Churchill Theatre Bromley from 22nd – 26th September 2026.

Presented by Eastbourne Theatres and Trafalgar Entertainment, the joyful comedy by Richard Harris (‘Outside Edge') follows a group of enthusiastic but unpolished amateur tap dancers attending weekly classes. Hauer will take on the role of Mavis, the determined instructor guiding the group towards a performance that pushes them beyond their limits.

Best known for her long-running role as a professional dancer on the BBC's flagship Saturday evening show ‘Strictly Come Dancing', Hauer became a fan favourite during her 14-year stint, appearing from 2012 to 2025 and reaching the final multiple times. Born in Venezuela and raised in New York, she trained at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and the High School of Performing Arts, going on to build an international career across stage and screen.

Her achievements and credits include being crowned World Mambo Champion in 2008, reaching the finals of ‘So You Think You Can Dance USA', performing alongside Jennifer Lopez, and appearing in the original Broadway cast of ‘Burn The Floor'. More recently, she created and starred in her own productions ‘Firedance' and ‘Firedance Reignite', as well as co-producing the immersive dance show ‘Speakeasy' in 2025. Her screen work includes performances in ‘Wicked' and choreography for ‘Tomorrow Morning'.

Speaking about the role, Hauer said: “I’m so pleased to be performing in this brand-new production of Stepping Out. It’s a play about ordinary people achieving extraordinary things through dance and in the role of their teacher and mentor, it certainly resonates with me. I’m looking forward to dusting off my tap shoes and working with a great company of actors and dancers to bring this heart-warming, feel-good comedy to the stage.”

‘Stepping Out' will tour the UK this summer, with full casting and additional tour dates to be announced.
