Reigns will reunite with Waives to release new collaboration ‘Closer Than Your Shadow' on 27th February 2026 via She Wears the Crown Records.
Following on from previous collaboration ‘Collateral Damage', ‘Closer Than Your Shadow' is about unconditional presence and the quiet promise that someone will stand beside you even when you can’t stand yourself. In a world where mistakes can feel permanent and public, the track offers something softer: compassion, understanding, and emotional safety. It captures the moment when everything feels like it’s unravelling, and the grounding force of love, friendship, or family pulls you back to yourself. Expansive yet deeply personal, the track pairs soaring vocals with fluid drum & bass production, bridging underground electronic credibility with crossover emotional pop appeal.
Originally written as a soul ballad, ‘Closer Than Your Shadow' has quietly lived in Reigns’ world for years, waiting for the right moment and the right collaborator to fully come to life.
Speaking about the track, Reigns explains, “I work loads with Dee Adam, and she played this one to me when we first started writing together. I instantly fell in love with it, and it stayed with me for years. When Waives asked if I’d like to collaborate again, it was a no-brainer. I remembered this tune and asked if they fancied sprinkling some Waives fairy dust on it. As soon as we started playing around with it, I knew—this was the one.”
Waives immediately connected with both the song and its message: “I’ve loved digging into this one. First and foremost, the song is sick. I love the message of being there for someone who’s lost their way — everything about it resonated with me, and I knew I had to get involved.”
