Phone chargers have become an essential everyday requirement for the majority of people. With society on their phones more than ever before, it’s no surprise that we often need to charge them multiple times a day. Whether you’re making calls, doom-scrolling on social media or playing games, your phone battery takes a hit fairly quickly. With many people unable to leave their phone unaccompanied for more than a few minutes, being able to charge it while still having access to it has become important. Krafted has a solution – the Krafted Couch!
No, this gadget doesn’t add a charging socket to your sofa (although there are plenty of sofas with that functionality now – wild), it’s an accessory that fits your couch. What I mean by that is that the Krafted Couch – which comes in Deep Blue, Matcha and Latte – is a silicone mat with a MagSafe compatible charger in the centre. The mat hangs over the arm of your sofa, giving you the ability to charge your phone while you’re watching TV or reading a book.

The Krafted Couch has a 2m long USB-C cable that you need to plug in, which is handy for those of us with plugs in odd places in our homes. That length should be more than sufficient for most people, and if you don’t have a USB-C connection in your home, you will need to buy a plug adapter for it. The Krafted Couch has a nice design and it blends nicely into the room, not sticking out provided you buy the colour that’s most suitable for your décor, of course. It weighs only 180 grams and is 11mm thin, meaning it’s lightweight to take with you should you need to.
So what about the charging? The Krafted Couch claims to offer fast wireless charging up to 15W for iPhone and 10W for Android, so I put it to the test. While the Krafted Couch certainly does charge your phone, I did find it on the slower end of the spectrum in terms of the charging devices I’ve used. That means that I’d likely use this if I was home for the evening and in no rush to charge my phone, but it wouldn’t be my first pick to give my phone a boost if I was leaving the house within the next 30-60 minutes.

Perhaps the biggest barrier for most consumers is going to be the price. At £39.99 this is at the top end of the chargers on the market and honestly, I’m not sure the performance warrants that price. While it certainly does the job, there are better chargers on the market for cheaper. The ability to hang it on your sofa is a bit of a gimmick, albeit an effective one, so it’ll come down to whether you’re willing to pay the price or not. Overall, the Krafted Couch is a decent charger but it could be a little bit on the speedier side to make this a must-buy.
