Clay Street Unit, the Colorado-born roots sextet steadily rising through the Americana world, is preparing for a milestone moment. The band will release their long-awaited debut album ‘Sin & Squalor' on February 13 through their new label home, Leo33.
Produced by Chris Pandolfi of the Grammy-winning Infamous Stringdusters, the record showcases the group’s distinctive ability to fuse the rugged expanse of the West with the folk traditions of the South and the modern edge of Americana. It’s a sound they’ve sharpened on the road since forming in Denver in 2021, building a loyal following drawn to the band’s fiery shows and rich musical chemistry. Fans of 49 Winchester rejoice – you will love this band!
Ahead of the album, Clay Street Unit has released their newest single, ‘Rollin’, a soul-baring meditation on moving forward after heartbreak. Lead singer and songwriter Sam Walker describes the track as a reflection on the quiet, often painful work of letting go. After struggling through multiple drafts, the song poured out in a single sitting one night, capturing that moment of clarity when you realise life keeps moving, no matter how much the past lingers.
‘Rollin’ offers a vivid preview of the emotional range on Sin & Squalor, which spans high-octane barn burners, tender introspection, and the band’s signature storytelling. From the acoustic blaze of ‘Where Have You Gone' to the homesick reflections in ‘Drive' and the gentle charm of ‘Let’s Get Stoned,' the album finds Clay Street Unit fully hitting their stride. With contributions from guest vocalist Lindsay Lou and a growing national fan base, ‘Sin & Squalor' positions the band as one of the most compelling new voices in contemporary roots music.
