Tony Lee Moral to release ‘A Century of Hitchcock: The Man, The Myths, The Legacy’ in Spring 2026

Tony Lee Moral, the author of ‘Alfred Hitchcock Storyboards‘, will release new book ‘A Century of Hitchcock: The Man, The Myths, The Legacy' in Spring 2026 via University Press of Kentucky.

For over a century, Alfred Hitchcock has remained one of cinema’s most influential directors. Known as the “Master of Suspense,” Hitchcock directed more than fifty films over six decades, pioneering techniques in tension, psychological depth, and innovative cinematography. From ‘The Lodger' (1927) to classics like ‘Vertigo' (1958), ‘North by Northwest' (1959), ‘Psycho' (1960), and ‘The Birds' (1963), his work has left an indelible mark on filmmakers worldwide, inspiring modern auteurs such as Christopher Nolan, Jordan Peele, and Bong Joon Ho.

Drawing on new archival research, previously unpublished interviews, and a rigorous examination of key biographies, ‘A Century of Hitchcock' by British filmmaker and author Tony Lee Moral offers a fresh perspective on Hitchcock’s legacy. Moral revisits controversial claims regarding Hitchcock’s alleged abuses, scrutinizes biographer Donald Spoto’s interpretations, and examines the director’s relationship with actress Tippi Hedren. For the first time, Moral highlights a 1980 interview between Spoto and Hedren, revealing how one key document challenges decades of exaggeration.

This comprehensive reappraisal explores Hitchcock’s cinematic brilliance, storytelling mastery, creative collaborations, and controversies, offering readers an engaging and balanced view of the director’s life and work in the post-#MeToo era. Marking 100 years since Hitchcock’s first film, ‘The Pleasure Garden', and fifty years since his last, Family Plot, the book situates Hitchcock at the pinnacle of cinematic history while encouraging critical reflection on the risks of relying on a single biographical narrative.

Tony Lee Moral is the author of ‘Hitchcock and the Making of Marnie', ‘The Making of Hitchcock’s The Birds', ‘The Young Alfred Hitchcock Movie-Making Masterclass', and ‘Alfred Hitchcock Storyboards'. Over many years, he has conducted original interviews with Hitchcock’s collaborators and analysed production notes and transcripts to provide new insights into the director’s life and career.
