Rising country artist Tommy Acker is keeping his momentum rolling with the release of his new single ‘Taillights Too Late,' out now via River House Artists. The track, co-written with country hitmakers Rhett Akins and Tony Lane, captures the gut-punch moment of realising a relationship has ended without warning — a mix of heartbreak, reflection, and the quiet stillness that follows.
‘Taillights Too Late' follows Acker’s summer single '10 & 2,' which earned him a spot on Country Now’s Country Next feature and further cemented his place among country music’s most promising young talents. Fans can stream the new single and watch its official music video now.
“‘Taillights Too Late’ has been special to me since the moment it was written,” Acker shares. “I had the honor of writing it with two legendary songwriters, Rhett Akins and Tony Lane – both of whom have penned songs that shaped me as an artist and a writer. To make it even more surreal, we wrote it inside the Grand Ole Opry itself, so there’s a little bit of magic in its DNA from the start. Every time I play this song, I fall in love with it all over again. Still, I’ll admit I was nervous walking into the studio because I wanted everything about it to be perfect. With producer Lukas Scott’s incredible production and vision, we got it to a place that just feels right – like the song finally found its home.”
It’s been a whirlwind year for the Texas native, who’s spent recent months touring with Megan Moroney and Hudson Westbrook while continuing to release a string of fan-favourite singles. His breakout debut, ‘How To Not,' went viral on TikTok and has racked up over 3.5 million streams across platforms, setting the stage for a wave of follow-up releases that have collectively surpassed 5 million global streams.
Born and raised in Tyler, Texas, Acker began playing guitar in high school and dedicated years to honing his songwriting and sound. His dedication paid off when acclaimed songwriter Jessi Alexander — known for hits like Miley Cyrus’ ‘The Climb' and Luke Combs’ ‘Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma' — discovered him and signed him to a publishing deal with Warner Chappell.
With praise from outlets like LEO Weekly calling him “a force to be reckoned with,” Tommy Acker’s star is clearly on the rise. ‘Taillights Too Late' marks another step in his evolution — a testament to his ability to blend vulnerability, timeless storytelling, and contemporary country appeal.
