Independent folk-rock six-piece Ole 60 have released their highly anticipated debut album, ‘Smokestack Town,' available everywhere now. Produced by Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, Zach Bryan, Modest Mouse) and Justin Eckerd, the record crafts a vivid, fictional landscape rooted in small-town America — a place where heartbreak, hope and hard lessons intertwine beneath the shadow of the smokestacks.
From the roaring, anthemic opener and title track to the haunting final notes of ‘Watching Scary Movies With The Volume Down,' ‘Smokestack Town' delivers an introspective and emotionally charged journey. Frontman Jacob Ty Young’s lyrics anchor the project, capturing both the grit and grace of everyday life. The result is a record that feels lived-in, raw, and unflinchingly honest.
“When we were writing this album, we didn’t really know what it would be,” Young shares. “At its core, it’s a collection of stories and feelings. We wanted to create something that felt complete both lyrically and sonically — something that had to be listened to from start to finish.”
Drawing on influences as wide-ranging as Smashing Pumpkins, Third Eye Blind and Radiohead, while maintaining the lyrical poetry of John Prine and Nicholas Jamerson, ‘Smokestack Town' showcases Ole 60’s unique ability to bridge the gap between Americana storytelling and alt-rock intensity. As Country Central noted, “Their understanding of what makes country music so special is impressive, but even more so is an aptitude for contorting that into something far more singular than the sum of its parts.”
The 10-track collection captures the band’s trademark mix of sharp lyricism and dynamic sound, with standout songs including ‘Really Wanna Know,' ‘Let You Down' and the title track ‘Smokestack Town.' Each song paints another layer of the album’s world — a portrait of mistakes made, lessons learned and dreams that refuse to die.
Earlier this week, Ole 60 celebrated the album’s release with their sold-out headlining debut at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. The six-piece delivered a powerhouse 90-minute set filled with fan favourites like ‘Dust 2 Dust,' ‘Next To You,' ‘Thoughts of You,' and ‘smoke & a light,' alongside new cuts from ‘Smokestack Town.' The energy was electric, with fans on their feet in every pew from start to finish.
Currently on their U.S. 2025 headlining tour, Ole 60 have added seven new dates, including their first-ever arena headliner at the Owensboro Sportscenter on New Year’s Eve. The tour also includes a major performance opening for Charles Wesley Godwin at Red Rocks on October 15 and back-to-back shows at The Burl in Lexington, Kentucky, on October 30 and 31 with Kashus Culpepper.
‘Smokestack Town' is available now on all major streaming platforms. Fans can listen to the album here and find tickets to upcoming tour dates here
