Oasis ruled the charts in the 90s, with brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher becoming two of the most recognisable musicians in the world. With seven albums under their belt, the band split in 2009 and the Gallagher brothers entered into a feud that would go on for nearly 15 years. Fans weren’t hopeful that they’d ever seen the band performing again, so it was with some surprise when rumours started to circulate that a reunion was on the cards. The Live ’25 tour would be the first time fans could see Oasis live in 16 years and understandably anticipation was high.
What started off as a handful of stadium dates in the UK spiralled into a 41-date global trek with 17 dates in the UK. Demand was so high that ticket websites crashed and fans frantically clamoured to get their hands on tickets. Subsequent lotteries took place, prioritising fans that missed out on tickets during the initial sales and the entire run sold-out quickly. There were concerns as to whether the Gallaghers would be able to keep the peace for the whole run but it seems they’ve come to some kind of understanding as so far, it seems to have been going well. Last night Oasis performed the last of 7 sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium, bringing the UK leg to a close.
Supported by Cast and Richard Ashcroft, Oasis took fans down a nostalgia-laden path setting up their arrival on stage at 8.15pm. The instrumental track “Fuckin’ in the Bushes” opened the night as video screens plastered tabloid headlines about the Gallagher brothers’ feud and their subsequent reunion. When Liam and Noel walked on stage, hand-in-hand I should add, to kick off with ‘Hello’, one of the many cuts from their iconic ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ album, the audience erupted. I didn’t see a single person sitting during the 2-hour show and the sing-a-long from the crowd lasted the whole show.
For those who’d never seen Oasis before, and even for those that had, the band delivered a set that was complete perfection. All of the hits were there along with fan favourites and they crammed 24 songs into their set. The only omission, for me at least, was “She’s Electric” which the band opted not to include. Liam’s distinctive vocals took me right back to the band’s 90s peak, sounding as fantastic now as he ever has. His unique drawl blasted through the stadium’s sound system on songs such as ‘Morning Glory’ and the epic ‘Some Might Say’. An early highlight was the epic ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’, which arrived shortly before the double punch of ‘Supersonic’ and ‘Roll With It’.
Noel took over lead vocals for ‘Talk Tonight’, ‘Half the World Away’ and ‘Little By Little’, during which it looked like Liam exited the stage. He returned though on ‘D’You Know What I Mean?’, which sound absolutely incredible in the stadium setting. The energy stayed high as the band worked through ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Cast No Shadow’ and ‘Slide Away’, with the crowd singing every single word. I glanced around a few times and it was amazing to see fathers and sons embracing one another as they enjoyed the music, and there were lots of generations of the same family soaking up the experience.
A soaring rendition of ‘Live Forever’ was a highlight and after the gritty ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’ the band left the stage, leaving fans chanting for their return for the inevitable encore. And what an encore it was. ‘The Masterplan’ was the first song, then the band launched into three of their most recognisable hits to bring the show to a close. Noel lead a crowd sing-a-long on the iconic “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, Liam hit a homerun with a flawless version of ‘Wonderwall’ and the night came to a close with the dreamy ‘Champagne Supernova’. As the song entered its final moments, Liam announced that Oasis would be back in 2026 so it looks like this isn’t the last time we’ll be seeing them.
I’ve seen many live shows in my life but seeing Oasis last night is one of the best I’ve ever witnessed. Not only was the band on point for the entire 2-hour set, but the crowd was incredible. You hear a lot of complaints about anti-social behaviour at gigs these days but Oasis’ audience couldn’t have been nicer. It was a feeling that we were all in it together for a night of nostalgia and to celebrate one of the greatest bands this Country has ever produced. I left Wembley Stadium hoarse from singing along for 2 hours and I had a huge smile plastered on my face. Liam and Noel burying the hatchet and bringing Oasis back is what we, and music, needed. Truly epic.
