Tom Petty’s ‘Wildflowers’ celebrates 30th anniversary with special new releases

To mark the 30th anniversary of Tom Petty’s landmark album ‘Wildflowers,' Warner Records has announced a limited edition two-LP One-Step vinyl release, arriving October 10 through Because Sound Matters. The pressing is capped at 6,000 numbered copies and has been cut directly from the original master tapes by engineer Chris Bellman, with oversight from Petty’s longtime collaborator Ryan Ulyate. Presented in a fully analog format, the release promises exceptional clarity and depth. Each copy comes housed in a uniquely designed slipcase with a double-pocket gatefold jacket. Pre-orders here.

The Wildflowers vinyl joins a prestigious One-Step series that includes Joni Mitchell’s Blue, Eagles’ Hotel California, Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew, and Stevie Nicks’ Bella Donna. The One-Step process is celebrated among audiophiles and collectors for delivering unmatched sound fidelity.

Petty’s estate is also opening the ‘Wildflowers' vault to fans, offering hours of never-before-seen rehearsal and tour footage through the free fan club, Tom Petty Nation. The first video, a performance of ‘Crawling Back to You' from the 1995 Dogs With Wings tour, is available now, with more content to follow in the coming months.

In addition, the acclaimed documentary Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers will receive its first physical release on Blu-ray September 12. Directed by Mary Wharton, the 89-minute film features rare 16mm footage from Petty’s archive alongside interviews with Rick Rubin, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, Petty’s daughter Adria, and others. The Blu-ray edition includes a 30-minute interview with Petty, bonus outtakes, and four music videos from the 2020 Wildflowers & All the Rest project.

The film debuted at SXSW in 2021, where it won the Audience Award, and went on to receive recognition at the Boulder Film Festival, the PGA Awards, and AFI Docs, earning critical acclaim across the festival circuit.

Originally released in 1994, ‘Wildflowers' marked Petty’s first collaboration with producer Rick Rubin. It quickly became his fastest-selling record, earning triple platinum certification within nine months, and peaking at number eight on the Billboard 200. Widely regarded as one of Petty’s most personal works, the album was later included on Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”
