Amanda Shires shares new single ‘Piece of Mind’ ahead of upcoming album

Award-winning singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Amanda Shires has released her latest single, ‘Piece of Mind,' the second track unveiled from her forthcoming album ‘Nobody’s Girl,' due September 26 on ATO Records. Written by Shires and produced by Lawrence Rothman, the rock-driven anthem brims with raw emotion and unapologetic energy. The single highlights Shires’ signature fiddle playing while exploring themes of liberation from the past, survival, and clarity in the face of being dismissed.

‘Piece of Mind' marks a turning point for Shires as a songwriter. “This one came when I was finally done being polite about pain,” she explains. “I wrote this song because I never got closure. ‘Piece of Mind’ became the place I said everything I didn’t get to say. Writing it gave me an ending. Not tidy. Not bitter. Just mine.”

The new track follows the release of ‘A Way It Goes,' which introduced the upcoming record to wide acclaim. Rolling Stone praised the album as “brutally honest and forthcoming,” while Consequence noted how Shires “works through pain with devastating lyrics,” and BrooklynVegan described her sound as “cinematic.”

Produced by Lawrence Rothman, ‘Nobody’s Girl' blends folk, rock, roots and country influences across a collection of deeply personal songs. Recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studios and Rothman Recorders in Los Angeles, the album features contributions from Fred Eltringham, Julian Dorio, Dominic Davis, Peter Levin, Zach Setchfield, Jay Bellerose, Pino Palladino, Jimbo Hart, and Joe Kennedy, alongside Shires herself on fiddle, tenor guitar and ukulele. The result is a rich and powerful body of work that confronts heartbreak, loss, resilience and empowerment with honesty and artistry.
