Watch: Kathy Mattea invited to join the Grand Ole Opry

Multi-Grammy Award winner and country music favourite Kathy Mattea is set to become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. The announcement came in a surprise onstage moment from fellow Opry member and longtime friend Charlie McCoy during Mattea’s performance of her hit '18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses.'

McCoy paused the show to present Mattea with a dozen roses and extend the official invitation, which she joyfully accepted to a standing ovation. Mattea will be formally inducted into the Opry on Saturday, October 11, during a special two-show night.

Opry executive producer Dan Rogers praised Mattea’s artistry and contributions, noting her nearly three decades of delivering powerful performances on the Opry stage.

The news comes amid a busy season for the Opry, with upcoming milestone celebrations for Connie Smith’s 60th anniversary on August 20 and Pam Tillis’ 25th anniversary on August 26. Steve Earle is also set for his official induction on September 17, led by Emmylou Harris. Tickets for Mattea’s induction night are available now.
