Mariah Carey to release new single ‘Type Dangerous’ on Friday

Mariah Carey is serving up all the treats for her fans at the moment, including a new single ‘Type Dangerous'.

Carey has spent the last few weeks celebrating the 20th anniversary of her iconic 2005 album ‘The Emancipation of Mimi', releasing a special edition vinyl, new remixes and a ton of new visuals. What fans weren't expecting is that the celebration would dovetail into MC16, the diva's upcoming new studio album.

All week Carey has been teasing fans on social media with cryptic videos asking ‘What is your type?'. The videos feature Carey all dolled up in a car and there's a glimpse of her switching off her hit “It's Like That” and teasing what's likely to be her new single. Carey has since confirmed that ‘Type Dangerous' will be released on Friday 6th June 2025, and you can pre-save it now.

While details are being kept firmly under wraps, we do know that the single is the lead track from Carey's sixteenth studio album and it was written by Carey, Anderson Paak and Rae Khalil (confirmed by Khalil's Instagram story). While Carey is teasing it as MC16, we doubt that'll end up being the eventual name of the record. ‘Type Dangerous' is said to be similar to “It's Like That”, taking Carey back to the dancefloor.

The song is Carey's first new solo material since 2018's ‘Caution', which featured the singles ‘With You', ‘A No No' and ‘GTFO'. No further information on the song or the new album is available at the time of writing this article but we'll bring the news as and when it arrives.

Recently Carey released ‘The Mimi Sessions‘, which saw her perform tracks from ‘The Emancipation of Mimi' live. The performances put an end to speculation about the state of Carey's voice after her critics claimed she could no longer hit the notes.
