Award-winning country singer-songwriter Josh Ross has joined forces with global music icon Akon to release a genre-blending, high-energy new single titled ‘Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na).' The track, a bold reimagining of Akon's 2008 hit ‘Right Now (Na Na Na),' is available now through Universal Music Canada, MCA Nashville in the U.S., and Snakefarm in the UK.
‘Drunk Right Now' fuses Ross’s gritty country vocals with Akon’s unmistakable melodic hooks to create a party anthem built for summer. While the original version of the song leaned into heartbreak, this refreshed take is all about carefree nights, wild memories, and living in the moment. With festival-ready energy, it’s primed for bar patios, loud speakers, and singalongs throughout the season.
The collaboration marks Akon’s latest step into cross-genre experimentation, as he continues exploring the intersection of pop, R&B, and country. For fans of both genres, the track offers a nostalgic twist with a modern edge.
“Akon’s music was always a huge part of my life growing up,” said Ross. “Having two older siblings, his songs were always playing—his sound, his hooks, everything about it just stuck with me before I even knew what the words meant. I’ve always been a fan. About a year ago, I was messing around in the studio and reimagined his song ‘Right Now,’ just for fun. We started playing it before our shows and the crowd went nuts—it turned into this wild country party anthem.”
Ross shared that he eventually sent the reworked track to Akon, not expecting much. To his surprise, Akon loved it and agreed to jump on the collaboration.
“It’s one of those full-circle moments I never saw coming, and I’m truly grateful to have a summer party anthem,” Ross said.
The official music video for ‘Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na)' is set to be released soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
