Gareth’s new EP Steal Your Thunder is a heartfelt, genre-blending showcase of his evolving artistry and emotional storytelling. Born in Castlederg and now making waves internationally, Gareth continues to carve out a unique space where Irish folk roots meet modern country-pop sensibilities.
Gareth describes ‘Steal Your Thunder' as his introduction to the world. “These songs are written and recorded with some of my best friends in both London and Nashville,” he shared. “It shares stories of my life, my family, and my recent move across the world. I am thankful for all the support and feel incredibly lucky to do this as a career. I hope you can connect with these songs and learn a little bit more about me as a person.”
Opening with ‘Answered Prayer,' Gareth sets a tender tone, leaning into sparse acoustic arrangements and restrained production that let his lyrics shine. The track feels like gruff nature of someone like Luke Combs jamming with commercial melody of Dan + Shay—soulful, melodic, and emotionally resonant. It’s a strong start that signals the EP’s blend of intimacy and ambition.
‘Quiet in this House' dives deeper into personal territory, reflecting on Gareth’s move to Nashville and the toll it took on family. The line “Dad said he’s proud but he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t breaking in two” lands with a quiet punch, while the Irish fiddle accents ground the song in his heritage, playing with a more Gaelic feel as opposed to a Tennessee or Kentucky bar room vibe, elevating it beyond standard pop-country fare.
The pace picks up with ‘Last Thing I Do,' a foot-stomping anthem where Gareth blends Mumford-style folk energy with country-pop urgency. The hook, “I’ll find my way back to you if it’s the last thing I do,” feels ready for big stages and bigger emotions—an arena-ready highlight.
The title track, ‘Steal Your Thunder,' brings a radio-ready edge with its electric guitar-driven sound and driving rhythm. Gareth balances swagger with sincerity, delivering a catchy, modern anthem that wouldn’t feel out of place on a Thomas Rhett record. It’s a bold, standout moment on the EP and a song that deserves to go to Country radio above all the others on this project if that's where BMG are heading.
Closing with ‘Time Don’t Wait,' Gareth slows things down for a sweeping ballad about seizing the moment. “Some doors are only open till they are closed,” he warns, echoing the urgency of Cody Johnson’s ’Til You Can’t with his own soulful twist. It’s a fitting closer that leaves a lasting impression long after the final chords fade in the memory.
With ‘Steal Your Thunder,' Gareth confirms he’s more than just a viral success. This EP is a confident step forward, one that blends heartfelt lyrics with commercial polish, and firmly establishes him as a rising voice in the country scene with a sound and a style all of his own. Part Ireland / part Nashville. Part Folk, part Country, part Pop – Gareth manages to straddle genres, conventions and even international borders and traditions in an original and unique way, stealing everyone's thunder along the way.
