Lynyrd Skynyrd is set to release ‘Celebrating 50 Years – Live At The Ryman,' a live album and DVD capturing their historic 50th-anniversary concert at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium in 2022. The album, set for release on June 27, 2025, holds special significance as it features the final performance of founding member Gary Rossington, who passed away the following year. Pre-orders right here.
The first single, ‘Tuesday’s Gone,' featuring Jelly Roll, is available now, accompanied by a newly released music video.
The album showcases the band’s signature blend of blues rock and Southern hard rock, serving as both a tribute to Rossington and a celebration of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s enduring legacy. Special guest appearances include Jelly Roll, Marcus King, John Osborne of The Brothers Osborne, Brent Smith of Shinedown, and Donnie Van Zant of .38 Special.
With over 28 million records sold in the U.S., Lynyrd Skynyrd remains one of the most influential bands in rock history. Originally formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1964 as My Backyard, the group evolved into Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1968. Their 1973 debut album introduced a sound that fused blues, country, and hard rock, producing timeless hits like ‘Sweet Home Alabama and ‘Free Bird.'
Tragedy struck in 1977 when a plane crash claimed the lives of lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup vocalist Cassie Gaines. Despite this loss, the band’s music continued to resonate, leading to their reformation in 1987 with Ronnie’s younger brother, Johnny Van Zant, as lead vocalist. Over the years, the band remained a powerful force in rock, continuing to tour and release new music.
Rossington’s passing in 2023 marked the end of an era, but Lynyrd Skynyrd’s influence remains strong. Their music continues to inspire fans across generations, ensuring that their legacy as Southern rock pioneers lives on.
