Kat Luna releases new EP ‘That Girl’ as well as being in CMT’s ‘Next Women’ Class of 2025

Sony Music Nashville artist Kat Luna has released her highly anticipated new EP, ‘That Girl.' Named one of Rolling Stone’s “25 Spanish-Language Artists We’re Rooting For in 2025,” Luna continues to make waves in the music industry with her unique blend of country and Latin influences. Billboard Country Update built excitement ahead of the release, stating, “The Miami native owns powerful pipes, and she’s got a spring EP on the way to showcase them.”

Produced by Nathan Chapman, ‘That Girl' marks a new chapter for Luna as a solo artist. She co-wrote all eight tracks, using the project as a platform to share her personal growth and self-discovery over the past year. The EP features both English and Spanish lyrics, reflecting Luna’s bilingual upbringing and cultural heritage.

“This EP is the most honest and personal music I have ever written, and I am so excited to share it,” Luna said. “This project is a time capsule of a particular part of my life, embodying my journey to finding myself and my true happiness. As a first-generation Cuban American, it was important for me to incorporate Spanish into my music to express my most authentic self. I hope this music resonates with others on their own journeys.”

Leading up to the EP’s release, Luna gave fans a preview by releasing both English and bilingual versions of ‘Happiest I’ve Ever Been.' The song received positive feedback, with MusicRow Magazine calling Luna’s voice “quite compelling” and HOLA! Magazine naming her “one to watch in 2025.”

In October 2024, Luna introduced the EP’s title track, ‘That Girl,' co-written with Rhett Akins and KK Johnson during a writing session at the Grand Ole Opry. She later collaborated with Erika Ender on a bilingual version of the song, which was praised as a “super song of survival and empowerment.” MusicRow Magazine highlighted Luna’s vocal performance, stating that she “sings the fire out of it.”

The full track list for ‘That Girl' includes:

In addition to the EP release, Luna recently made her Grand Ole Opry debut, performing ‘I Don’t' and the bilingual version of ‘That Girl.' Today, it was also announced that Luna is part of CMT’s Next Women of Country Class of 2025, with Billboard covering the news.

Kat Luna, formerly of the duo Kat & Alex, has been forging her own path over the past year. As a first-generation Cuban American, she grew up surrounded by music, introduced to artists like Toby Keith and Celia Cruz by her “Cuban Cowboy” grandfather. She began singing in school and gained national recognition through appearances on Univision’s La Banda, Telemundo’s La Voz, and American Idol. After initially signing a record deal as part of Kat & Alex, Luna has now stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist.

Her journey over the past year has led to some of her most compelling and personal work, with ‘That Girl' earning praise for showcasing her growth as both a vocalist and songwriter. As Billboard notes, “Track after track, Luna keeps steadily building her resume as a compelling country vocalist and emotionally transparent writer.”
