‘Sleepers' will launch on Channel 4 in January, it has been confirmed.
Created by Simon de Waal and Robert de Hoog, the series stars Robert de Hoog, Maryam Hassouni, Teun Kuilboer and Hans Kesting. ‘Sleepers' is the story of a corrupt detective Martin Oudkerk.
As a young boy, he and his friend Willem were taken under the wings of old school criminal, Henk. Willem followed Henk down the criminal path, but Henk had other plans for Martin and sent him to a police academy with the intention to later pass on insider information.
Times have changed and a new wave of ruthless criminals are rising – who play by their own rules. Henk is asked to move on and clear the path for them. Set in his ways, he refuses and pays the ultimate price with his life. Martin's world rapidly changes with the murder of Henk, especially when the new group of criminals force Martin into passing on sensitive information to them. He must make sure no one is on to him, while slowly being dragged further down inside the criminal underworld.
When a detective is killed, a special force team is assigned to the case led by Tarik Mesina, who finds out the murdered detective was corrupt. This puts everyone and everything on edge and under suspicion. Tarik trusts Martin and asks him to work alongside him, giving Martin even more access to privileged information. He soon finds out during an interrogation with a key witness that there is a list with all the corrupt detectives named.
Pushed by both worlds into a corner, Martin must navigate the dangerous line between his obligations as a cop and his loyalty to the criminals to keep himself clear of suspicion and to protect his family.
Walter Presents: ‘Sleepers' launches 12th January 2025 at midnight on Channel 4. The full boxset is available on C4 Streaming from 10th January 2025.
