Upcoming singer-songwriter Bella Harlan (Alexa PenaVega) is on her way to the top after featuring on her rockstar boyfriend Sage Majors’ (Alan Powell) Christmas song. As Bella starts making long-term plans involving Sage, she’s blind-sided when he suggests that they take a break. Refusing to believe they’ve broken up, Bella returns to her hometown where she enlists the help of her former songwriting partner Jack Grayton (Carlos PenaVega) to help her write a song to win Sage back. As they work closely together, Jack starts to fall for Bella all over again and Bella starts to wonder if Sage really is the man for her after all.
‘Get Him Back For Christmas’ stars real-life husband and wife duo Carlos PenaVega (one quarter of Big Time Rush) and Alexa PenaVega (‘Nashville’), and it’s packed with original songs that fans of the pair will love. Feeling, and looking, a little higher budget that some of the other Christmas films coming out this year, ‘Get Him Back For Christmas’ is a classic story of a woman trying to win a man back that doesn’t deserve her, while coming to the realisation that the perfect man has been right under her nose the whole time.
While Bella’s career has taken off, Jack is working at The Salvation Army and still pursuing his music dreams on the side. The arrival of Bella back into his life throws his world into chaos and he’s forced to face up to the feelings he’s harboured for her for years. Bella on the other hand is totally oblivious, and believes that she and Jack have never been anything more than friends and songwriting partners. Jack is encouraged to tell Bella how he feels by his enthusiastic work mate Matt (Kevin Valdez), who is hoping to find love himself during the holiday season.
Fans of Alexa and Carlos will absolutely love this film. Their natural spark is present throughout, and there’s no denying that they are magic together. Whether they’re singing together or just acting opposite one another, their connection is evident and that really helps to sell the relationship between Bella and Jack. Both are gifted actors and musicians, and they really play to their strengths here. Alan Powell brings good comedy value as the self-absorbed Sage, despite not getting a whole lot of screentime.
‘Get Him Back For Christmas’ may be predictable but it’s a whole lot of fun. The original music lifts the whole thing, and showcases just how talented Alexa and Carlos really are. There’s a sweet message that runs through the film, and there are plenty of moments that will make you chuckle along the way. With only a couple more films to air as part of Great American Christmas, I can say that this is one of the strongest ones this year.
