Fans of The Specials can relive a historic moment as the band’s last-filmed concert, performed before the tragic passing of lead singer Terry Hall in 2022, will air on Sky Arts on 20th December at 9pm.
A Homecoming for the Ages
The Specials, pioneers of the 2 Tone movement, returned to their hometown of Coventry for a sold-out performance in the stunning ruins of Coventry Cathedral. The four unforgettable nights celebrated the band’s 40-year legacy, filled with their greatest hits and a powerful reminder of their enduring message.
From Ghost Town and Rat Race to Nite Klub and The Lunatics (Have Taken Over The Asylum), the setlist was a tribute to the songs that made The Specials icons of both music and political activism.
A Legacy of Music and Message
Emerging in the late 1970s, The Specials became the multiracial voice of the 2 Tone movement, using their music to tackle issues like racism, unemployment, and social injustice. Their Coventry Cathedral performance was a poignant homecoming to the birthplace of 2 Tone, marking a monumental moment in the band’s storied history.
