The Folio Society has announced a limited edition release of JRR Tolkien’s ‘The Hobbit', publishing November 19th, 2024, with only 1,000 copies available. Priced at £600, this edition is crafted as a companion to the sold-out limited edition of ‘The Lord of the Rings'.
Known for his remarkable vision of Middle-earth, award-winning illustrator Alan Lee returns to breathe new life into ‘The Hobbit' with fresh illustrations and design elements that make this release truly special.

J.R.R. Tolkien (1892–1973), was a British author and philologist who wrote some of the most influential novels of the past century. Through ‘The Lord of the Rings' and ‘The Hobbit', Tolkien redefined the fantasy genre. Fifty years after his death, his tales of Middle-earth live on through his immortalised prose.
This exquisite edition celebrates Tolkien's classic tale with several unique features. Among them are a new frontispiece, exclusive full-color illustrations, finely detailed black-and-white borders, and a collectible giclée print, all designed by Lee. Readers will also find two Middle-earth maps, housed in their own folder, adding depth to Tolkien's richly imagined world. The book itself is quarter-bound in leather, and each of the 1,000 individually numbered copies is signed by Lee, making it a must-have for Tolkien fans and collectors alike.

James Rose, Head of Editorial at The Folio Society, said: “Alan Lee’s images have become synonymous with the visual style of Middle-earth, and his contributions to this limited edition make it the ultimate version of this timeless saga.”
‘The Hobbit' Limited Edition will be available exclusively on The Folio Society’s website starting November 19th at 4pm UK time. Given the swift sell-out of the limited ‘The Lord of the Rings' edition, which saw 1,000 copies snapped up in just 36 hours, this release is expected to fly off the shelves quickly.

This limited edition of ‘The Hobbit' is not only a tribute to Tolkien’s legacy but a chance to experience the magic of Middle-earth anew through Alan Lee's timeless artwork.
