The Grand Ole Opry, the world's longest-running radio show, has previewed a monumental celebration for its upcoming 100th anniversary. As fans, artists, and country music enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the Opry’s 99th birthday, plans for the centennial year were unveiled, promising a year-long tribute to the rich legacy of country music.
Marty Stuart, a 32-year Opry member, reflected on the significance of the milestone: “I've enjoyed watching the Opry evolve into a cultural powerhouse. The Opry is more than just a radio show; it’s a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless people. For me, it’s about more than keeping the red ‘on-air’ light lit; it’s about the lives we’ve touched in 100 years.”
The “Opry 100” celebrations will begin with the first performance of 2025, marking a year of unforgettable events, performances, and tributes to the artists, fans, and songs that have shaped the Opry’s history. Colin Reed, Executive Chairman of Ryman Hospitality Properties, emphasized the Opry’s growing global reach. “Thanks to the explosive growth of country music in recent years, we’re uniquely positioned to make the Opry a household name worldwide. The stories of the artists and fans that define the Opry will take center stage in 2025.”
A variety of special events will highlight the Opry’s centennial year, including an international performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall, Opry 100 tribute shows, and the debut of 100 new artists on the famous Opry stage. Fans will also have the opportunity to participate by voting for the Opry’s 100 greatest country songs, which will be showcased throughout the year. The celebrations will officially kick off on January 3, 2025, with a performance at the historic Ryman Auditorium, led by Country Music Hall of Famer Bill Anderson.
The Opry’s 100th anniversary is the perfect time to amplify the rising global popularity of country music. The show that made country music famous will stage a performance outside the United States in Fall 2025 from the renowned Royal Albert Hall in London. This landmark show will feature an all-star cast that will bring to life the rich and diverse musical styles found within the country music genre.
