Ashley Monroe releases beautiful new piano ballad ‘There You Are’

Today, acclaimed singer-songwriter Ashley Monroe releases her latest single ‘There You Are,' a heartfelt piano ballad that highlights her ethereal vocals. Known for her ability to captivate audiences, Monroe recently hushed theatres across the UK while on tour with Little Big Town, and delivered a moving showcase at AmericanaFest over the weekend. ‘There You Are,' penned by Jessi Alexander, Margaret Findley, and Sally Barris, is a powerful addition to Monroe’s repertoire, as she has collaborated with these songwriters on some of her most beloved tracks, including ‘Weed Instead of Roses.'

Reflecting on the song, Monroe shared, “Sally Barris was one of the first people I wrote with in Nashville. She co-wrote ‘Satisfied’, ‘Used’, ‘Weed Instead of Roses’, and many others I’ve recorded over the years. Sally taught me new chords, helped my mom and me find a place to live when we moved from Knoxville, and really shaped the way I write.”

Monroe first heard ‘There You Are' in 2004, and it has remained a deeply personal song for her ever since. “The first time Sally played me the song, it absolutely slayed me. I’ve played it just about every time I’ve sat at a piano since then, and it still hits me just as hard.”

During a session at Gena Johnson’s studio, Monroe spontaneously played the song at an antique piano, and Johnson insisted on capturing the moment. “I’m so thankful she did. This song still moves me to my core, and I’m proud to share its power with the world.”

‘There You Are' follows the release of Monroe's previous single ‘Hot Rod Pipe Dream,' co-written with longtime collaborator Brendan Benson and co-produced by GRAMMY-winner Gena Johnson. The track’s official video, which premiered on a CMT billboard in Times Square, marked another highlight in Monroe’s impressive career resurgence.

Monroe’s 2021 album ‘Rosegold' earned widespread praise from critics including Rolling Stone, The Nashville Scene, No Depression, Vulture, Paste Magazine, Garden & Gun, Stereogum, and Pitchfork. Vulture called the album “a masterclass” in their 2021 Best Albums of the Year roundup, noting how Monroe “continues to refine her talents as a writer and vocalist while expanding her artistic palette” across multiple genres.

With ‘There You Are' Ashley Monroe continues to prove her prowess as a storyteller, offering listeners a deeply emotional experience through her music.
