Finnish series ‘A Good Family' is coming to Channel 4 and C4 Streaming in October courtesy of Walter Presents.
The series is created by Antti Pesonen, Minna Virtanen and Petri Karra. It stars Maria Sid, Samuli Edelmann, Elias Salonen and Tommi Korpela.
Anna and Henrik are thrust into a dangerous underworld when their son brings a heinous crime to their doorstep. Parental instincts quickly overcome morality…
Police officer Anna and her partner Raimo are assigned to investigate a new case – the murder of a family man in cold blood in front of his home. Their investigation takes them to an abandoned building, where their initial suspect Jape, the son of crime boss Lefa Halme, is hiding out. What Anna doesn’t know is that her son Niko is hanging out with Jape in that same building. The police officers chase the two youngsters, who nevertheless manage to escape – but not before Anna catches a glimpse of her son. Anna lets him get away and lies to Raimo, telling him that the fugitives slipped away.
The same night, Henrik’s phone rings. The caller is Niko, who is panicking and begging for his father’s help. Niko is terrified, afraid for his life. Henrik drives to meet his son – reluctantly, because he assumes Niko has once again made a monumental mess. When he gets there he realizes that what has happened is so horrific that only he, Niko’s father, can help. Even if it means breaking the law.
Henrik pressures Niko to leave the country immediately, as Anna would instantly see through her son and realize that something untoward has happened. Henrik doesn’t reveal the night’s events to Anna.
Meanwhile crime boss Lefa contacts Anna from the prison in the middle of the night. He demands Anna to visit him right away. He wants her to find his son, whatever the cost. There is something strangely intimate in their encounter – this is not your usual cop/bad guy relationship. As she leaves the cell, Anna’s emotions churn.
The high-end drama about love, marriage and parenthood is based on Finnish author and screenwriter Petri Karra’s 2019 novel ‘The Dark Light' (‘Musta Valo').
Walter Presents: ‘A Good Family' will launch on Channel 4 on 13th October 2024 at midnight. The full series will be available as a boxset on C4 Streaming from 11th October 2024.
