‘Ted Lasso’ star Phil Dunster is teaming up with West End star Zizi Strallen (‘Mary Poppins’) for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘Oklahoma! in Concert’.
The iconic show will celebrate its 80th anniversary with a return to Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, its original West End home. Dunster will star as Curly opposite Strallen as Laurey.
The production is directed and choreographed by Olivier Award-winnerĀ Bill Deamer, andĀ features Robert Russell Bennettās full original 28-piece orchestrations performed by theĀ London Musical Theatre Orchestra, conducted byĀ Ben Glassberg. Further casting and creatives are to be announced.Ā
British actor, director, writer, and producerĀ Phil DunsterĀ has quickly emerged as one of Hollywoodās most globally sought-after creatives. He received an Olivier nomination for his work inĀ ‘Pink Mist’Ā (Bristol Old Vic) and on-screen has gained significant recognition for his Emmy and Critics Choice-nominated performance as Jamie Tartt in the SAG, Golden Globe, Critics Choice, Peabody, and Emmy Award-winning Apple TV+ phenomenonĀ ‘Ted Lasso’. Philās other credits includeĀ ‘The Entertainer’Ā (Garrick Theatre), Amazon PrimeāsĀ ‘The Devilās Hour’, HBOāsĀ ‘Catherine the Great’Ā and Kenneth Branaghās filmĀ ‘The Murder on the Orient Express’. He is currently in production for season two of Apple TVās thrillerĀ ‘Surface’.
Zizi Strallen most recently played the leading role of Marie Antoinette in ‘Cake: The Marie Antoinette PLAYlist’ (Lyric Theatre) and in 2020, was nominated for an Olivier Award for ‘Best Actress in a Musical’ for her work as Mary Poppins in ‘Mary Poppins’ (Prince Edward Theatre). Zizi has worked extensively in theatre, starring inĀ ‘Sunset Boulevard’Ā (Royal Albert Hall),Ā ‘Cats’Ā (UK Tour/London Palladium),Ā ‘Rock of Ages’Ā (Shaftesbury Theatre),Ā ‘Strictly Ballroom’Ā (Piccadilly Theatre) and many more. Her TV and film credits also include DisneyāsĀ ‘Cinderella’, ITVāsĀ ‘Victoria & Albert’Ā and BBCāsĀ ‘The Prince and the Pauper’.Ā Ā
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s ‘Oklahoma!’ opened on Broadway in 1943 and later transferred to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane for its West End premiere in 1947. OKLAHOMA! was Rodgers & Hammersteinās first collaboration, and features some of their most loved songs, including āOh, What a Beautiful Mornināā, āThe Surrey with the Fringe on Topā and the titular title song āOklahoma!ā.
