Chris Shiflett unveils new country twist on Thin Lizzy classic ahead of UK tour

Renowned Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett is gearing up for his much-anticipated return to the UK this month with the release of his latest single, ‘Cowboy Song’. The track, a country rendition of the Thin Lizzy classic, infuses twanged-up twin leads and pedal steel, capturing the essence of Shiflett’s musical versatility.

Set to feature on his upcoming EP, ‘Starry Nights & Campfire Lights’ scheduled for release on March 15th via Snakefarm, ‘Cowboy Song’ showcases Shiflett’s admiration for Thin Lizzy’s storytelling prowess and his knack for reinventing classics with a modern twist.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, Shiflett explains, “I’ve always loved Thin Lizzy and thought Phil Lynott’s storytelling lyrics could easily translate to Country music, none more so than ‘Cowboy Song’.” He further elaborates on the creative process, noting, “I went into the studio with my band between Foo Fighter tours recently out at 606 and worked up our version, which we aimed at a late 70’s Waylon type of vibe, like when Outlaw was crossing over into Disco.”

In addition to ‘Cowboy Song,’ the EP will feature a cover of the Hanoi Rocks track ‘Don’t You Ever Leave Me,’ along with unreleased live and acoustic versions of tracks from Shiflett’s highly acclaimed album, ‘Lost At Sea,’ released last year. The EP arrives just ahead of Shiflett’s headline tour across the UK and Ireland, culminating in a much-anticipated show at London’s Electric Ballroom on the 27th.

Joining Shiflett on tour will be ‘Wild’ Willy Cobb and Kezia Gill, promising audiences an electrifying showcase of talent and musical prowess. Looking ahead to the tour, Shiflett expresses his excitement, stating, “I can’t wait to get back over to the UK and Ireland for another run of dates! The tour we did last spring was amazing, the best we’ve ever done.”

As a modern-day guitar hero, Shiflett’s latest endeavor blends alt-country rock with sharp songwriting and Americana undertones, showcasing his remarkable versatility and artistry. Alongside his musical pursuits, Shiflett has launched a new video series titled ‘Shred with Shifty,’ where he delves into the art of playing guitar with iconic musicians.

With his upcoming UK tour and the release of “Starry Nights & Campfire Lights” on the horizon, Chris Shiflett continues to solidify his status as a multifaceted talent and a force to be reckoned with in the world of music.
