A couple of weeks ago, the Queen of the Clubs, dancing, disco Dannii dropped her latest banger ‘Thinking ‘Bout Us’ with DJ/Producer Autone. As well as being a bop, the video is full of Easter Eggs to different points in Dannii’s music career.
Having been a fan since her ‘Love And Kisses’ debut, I instantly recognised a few references, but after multiple watches, have I managed to spot them all?
- First off, there’s a pretty obvious reference to Dannii’s third album, and perhaps the one that first showed her interest in the club scene, as we see the word ‘Girl’ written on the back of Dannii’s jacket as she walks to the dancefloor.
- ‘I Begin To Wonder’ if there isn’t more than one nod to Dannii’s UK No.2 hit as not only do we see Dannii walking in a subway tunnel (the camera even spins too!), but she finds a pair of scissors – however this time she’s not cutting her hair. Finally, the title of the track circles Dannii much in the same style as the 2003 video.
- ‘Loves On Every Corner’ isn’t the most obvious Dannii video to reference, but unless I’m mistaken, not only is the long coat Dannii is wearing in the above mentioned subway similar to that worn in the 1992 video, but there’s also a scene of Dannii on all fours in the shadows. Something that she also does on the rooftops in ‘Loves On Every Corner’.
- All I want is your ‘Love And Kisses’ as Dannii goes right back to her first ever video with a giant L and K dropping in behind her as she performs a choreographed dance routine. There’s also the beaded necklace which looks mighty familiar. In fact, Dannii wears beaded necklaces in several other videos too; ‘Jump To The Beat’, ‘Show You The Way To Go’ and ‘So Under Pressure’.
- Speaking of ‘So Under Pressure’, there’s a nice hint to that video in ‘Thinking ‘Bout Us’ when a snake tattoo appears on her shoulder; a tribute to Dannii having a white python writhing over her in that video back in 2006.
- ‘All I Wanna Do’ is pick up the phone and have a chin-wag with Ms Minogue! Dannii is seen on the familiar retro pink landline from her Barbie-esque 1997 smash video, and there are even some pink cloud graphics, to represent the clouds seen through the circular window from ‘All I Wanna Do’.
- It seems Dannii kept her fluorescent light tubes from her 2017 ‘Galaxy’ video, and they can be seen about two thirds through her new video, as she dances in front of them.
- Finally, and this one may be very tenuous, but could that faux fall at 2.04 actually be a reference to a rare Dannii song called ‘Trip’ that was released only on ‘Departure Lounge-World Grooves’ back in 2015?
