Austin-based band Shane Smith & The Saints has unveiled their latest single, ‘It’s Been A While,’ offering fans a taste of what’s to come on their forthcoming album, ‘Norther,’ set to release on March 1st via Thirty Tigers/Geronimo West Records. Pre-order the album here.
This album marks the group’s first release in five years, promising a rich tapestry of musical genres, including country, Americana, Southern rock, folk, and honky-tonk, all woven together with their signature four-part harmonies and frontman Shane Smith’s striking baritone vocals.
The emotionally charged ‘It’s Been A While’ delves into themes of longing and the desire for connection, drawing from Smith’s own experiences on the road. Reflecting on the song’s origins, Smith shares, “I’d started this song years and years ago, during a very low point of touring. There were many moments of desperation to be back home, without having the means or money to get there. The lyrics here are derived straight from that time but can often times still continue to hit home for us now.”
Smith’s haunting vocals take center stage, supported by The Saints’ impassioned instrumentation, culminating in a powerful crescendo. Accompanying the release is a poignant music video featuring personal clips captured on the road via Smith’s phone, providing a raw and intimate glimpse into the band’s journey.
In 2023, Shane Smith & The Saints achieved notable milestones, selling out prestigious venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Following a highly acclaimed performance at London’s Bush Hall last year, the band is set to return to the UK this May for a headlining slot at Highways Festival at the Royal Albert Hall, along with shows in Manchester and Glasgow.
