Walter Presents is bringing ‘Berlin Wall’ to More4 in the autumn, with episodes available weekly on C4 Streaming.
The new series takes an enthralling leap into 1980s Berlin at the crux of the collapse of the dividing wall. It was created by Michael Krummenacher, and stars Nadja Uhl, Barbara Auer and Nicolette Krebitz.
This compelling German drama begins in 1987, more than 25 years after the Berlin Wall first divided the city’s East and West regions. Two sisters and their grown-up children find themselves on different sides of the political fence in a rapidly disintegrating East Germany.
Margot (Barbara Auer) is a major in the Stasi, the fearsome and brutal state security service of East Berlin, whilst her sibling Lotte (Nadja Uhl) lives and works in the enemy camp of the West, in the capitalist freedom of the Federal Republic of Germany. In a shocking turn of events a third sister, believed drowned years before, turns up in the West with a big secret to tell on the eve of the fall of the Wall.
The three sisters’ fates become inexorably intertwined and as the Berlin Wall crumbles, the consequences of their choices reverberate through a nation in the throes of a transformation. This is a beautifully shot, sophisticated and emotionally compelling series about family, loyalty, and an unforgettably dramatic chapter of modern history.
