Polish crime thriller ‘The Defence’ is returning for Season 5 courtesy of Walter Presents.
After the shocking events of season 3, viewers were left on the edge of their seats as lawyer Chyłka’s life hung in the balance. This series begins as Chyłka wakes up in hospital after being beaten unconscious. As she recovers, she receives a mysterious message from an old acquaintance of her mother’s, pointing her to the past.
A terminally ill priest confesses his darkest secret to Chyłka, which sets in motion a complicated unravelling of a scandal from the 1980s. He claims that a man is wrongly imprisoned for committing multiple murders and urges Chyłka to uncover the truth. Fearing that lives are in grave danger, Chyłka returns to work immediately, though not fully healed, and sets out to solve this mystery and find the real killer. The case becomes even more complicated when it turns out that one of the killer’s victims is alive.
As the investigation unfolds, Chyłka is determined to do whatever is necessary to find answers and is forced to ask for help from someone she’d rather stay away from. Chyłka finds herself drawn into a dangerous game of power and corruption that threatens to unravel the very fabric of the legal system she has sworn to uphold. As alliances shift and hidden agendas come to light, viewers will be kept guessing until the final verdict is delivered.
The show is created by Remigiusz Mróz, Lukasz Palkowski, Marek Wróbel and Dorota Chamczyk. It stars Magdalena Cielecka, Filip Plawiak and Piotr Zurawski.
