At just 23 years old, artist and songwriter Dasha has quickly risen through the ranks as a standout talent to watch closely. The release of her 2021 EP, ‘Shiny Things,' garnered significant attention on TikTok, solidifying her dedicated fanbase. Following this success, Dasha eagerly unveiled her highly anticipated debut album, ‘Dirty Blonde,' in early 2023. Over the past year, the eight singles preceding the album collectively amassed millions of streams and secured placements on major editorial playlists, including Spotify's Night Pop, Chill Pop, Soda, NMF Belgium, and Apple Music's Acoustic Summer and Breaking Singer/Songwriter.
However, for us, as a Country platform it has been Dasha's three most recent songs, ‘Austin', ‘Even Cowboys Cry' and ‘King of California' that have really caught our attention. Occupying a similar sonic landscape to Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves, Dasha is returning to her roots, drawing inspiration from her upbringing in San Luis Obispo, California, where she was immersed in the rich sounds of country, folk, and Americana music.
Her musical journey began at the age of eight when she started playing the guitar and piano, eventually evolving into a skilled songwriter. Having attended Belmont University's songwriting program from 2018 to 2021, Dasha honed her craft, learning the rules and tricks of songwriting, which she humorously describes as “knowing how best to break them.” This newfound authenticity marks a significant turning point in her career.
As she embarks on her new era and the creation of her next album, Dasha is steering back into the realm of country and folk, where her love for songwriting and music initially blossomed. Engaged in daily sessions in both Nashville and LA, she is shaping the narrative of her upcoming era while exploring the creative possibilities for her next album. Her album, ‘What Happens Now' is slated for release on February 16th and we're predicting big things ahead for this talented writer. New single '42' came out today (Friday January 12th) and you can hear it at the link below:
