Angela Scanlon is ninth celebrity eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2023

Angela Scanlon has become the ninth celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2023.

The TV presenter and her professional partner Carlos Gu scored 31 points out of 40 last night for their Cha-Cha-Cha to Gloria Gaynor’s disco classic ‘I Will Survive’, finding themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard. They found themselves facing Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin in the dreaded dance-off, who’d scored 34 out of 40 for their American Smooth routine to ‘It’s Oh So Quiet’ by Bjork.

After both couples performed their dances again, presenter Tess Daly asked the four judges which pair they wanted to save and send through to next week’s quarter-final. Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all chose to save Layton and Nikita, meaning unfortunately Angela and Carlos were sent home. However, although head judge Shirley Ballas was not required to vote, she disagreed with the rest of the judging panel, saying she would have chosen to save Angela and Carlos.

When Tess asked Angela about her time on the show, she said: “It’s been honestly incredible, I’m gutted, really gutted that it’s finished now, but it has been the most wonderful experience. I have made the best friend in this man [Carlos]. We have had so much fun, he is such an incredible guy. He has supported me and picked me up and made me laugh so much. I don’t know what to say, it’s been magical honestly – all of those people up there! My husband at home, my two little girls and all my friends!”

Tess also asked Angela’s dance partner Carlos if he had any words for her. He said: “Her commitment and her strength every day, day by day – I’m a professional dancer and she works so hard, harder than me! Look at her now – I am so proud, her sense of humour and we had so much fun everyday – she cracks me up laughing!”

Tonight’s results show opened with a Hollywood glam, whodunnit-inspired routine from Strictly’s professional dancers, plus a performance from Texas singing their classic hit ‘Inner Smile’ with a fun and fabulous dance from Vito Coppola and Luba Mushtuk.

Angela and Carlos will be joining Fleur East for their first exclusive televised interview live on Strictly It Takes Two on Monday 27th November at 18:30on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

The remaining five couples will take to the dancefloor next when Strictly Come Dancing returns for a Musicals special on Saturday 2nd December at 19:25, with the results show on Sunday 3rd December at 19:20 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
