Krishnan Guru-Murthy becomes seventh celebrity eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2023

Krishnan Guru-Murthy has become the seventh celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing 2023.

The Channel 4 newsreader and his partner Lauren Oakley scored 25 out of 40 for their Samba last night to ‘Bamboleo’ by Gypsy Kings. They faced Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington in the dreaded dance-off, who scored 32 points for their Paso Doble to Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’.

After both couples performed their routines again, presenter Tess Daly asked the four judges who they wanted to save. Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all voted to save Angela and Kai, meaning unfortunately Krishnan and Lauren had to leave the competition. However, although head judge Shirley Ballas was not required to vote, she disagreed with her fellow judges, saying she would have voted to save Krishnan and Lauren.

When Tess asked him about his time on the show, Krishnan said: “Look, this has been the most incredible experience. I said it has been life changing and it genuinely has. I am incredibly grateful to the entire production team, judges, my incredible Strictly family up there. It’s right I am going out this week and I have got to get back to life. The thing that has made Strictly really special is Lauren. She is the most incredible teacher, partner, friend. She is the real Strictly star and I am so delighted I am the first partnership you have had. She is going to go a long way and I am very proud of her.”

Tess then asked Lauren if she had any words for her partner Krishnan. She said: “I couldn’t have asked for a better first dance partner, it has been an absolute dream. This guy is what Strictly is about from not having danced a step eight weeks ago and you just danced that Samba! I had an absolute ball every single week. You taught me so much as well, I am so grateful and it will be in my memory forever, and we will keep dancing.”

Tonight’s results show opened with a beautiful Remembrance Sunday routine from the professional dancers – always a highlight of any Strictly Come Dancing series. There was also a special performance from Andrea Bocelli and his daughter Virginia who did their own rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen, following the announcement that Andrea will headline BST Hyde Park festival in London next summer as part of his 30th anniversary celebrations.

Krishnan and Lauren will be joining Fleur East for their first exclusive televised interview live on Strictly It Takes Two on Monday 13th November at 6.30 PM on BBC Two.

The remaining seven couples will return the dancefloor next week when the Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool Special returns to the iconic Tower Ballroom on Saturday 18th November at 6:40 PM, with the results show on Sunday 19th November at 7:20 PM on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
