‘The Traitors’ renewed by BBC for a third series before second series airs

Fans of ‘The Traitors’ will be pleased to hear that the show has been renewed for a third series to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The news comes ahead of the second series of the phenomenon airing. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, ‘The Traitors’ is a nail-biting psychological reality competition where 22 strangers play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust, in the hope of winning up to Ā£120,000.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment at the BBC, says: ā€œThe massive unscripted hit ‘The Traitors’ will be back for a third series. Expect to see more psychological gameplay, exciting challenges and of course Claudia at the helm. It will be a thrilling ride for both avid fans and newcomers to the series for sure. The BBC will always remain faithful to ‘The Traitors’.ā€

‘The Traitors’ reached 21m viewers last series, and was the biggest brand new entertainment launch for the BBC since 2021. It was the biggest new series for young audiences across all BBC titles in 2022, and the highest rating new entertainment series on the BBC since at least 2017 for young audiences.

This year ‘The Traitors’ scooped a host of awards including the BAFTA TV Award for Best Reality & Constructed Factual, the NTA for Reality Competition, the RTS award for Entertainment and the Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Entertainment Programme. Whilst Claudia Winkleman bagged the BAFTA TV Award for Best Entertainment Performance, the RTS award for Entertainment Performance and the Edinburgh TV Festival Variety Outstanding Achievement Award.
