Wallen’s hair? Cody Castrates Cows! Garth fudging the numbers? Country Music Monday musings

Welcome to the second in a new feature for Entertainment Focus. Each Monday we are going to throw out a few random thoughts into the ether about this wonderful genre of Country music and the artists, musicians, people and places that go together to create it. You might agree with some of our thoughts, you might disagree with others.

At a time in the world when we should all be pulling together it is not intended to be any great divisive piece of incendiary journalism. Instead, take it in the spirit it is intended, which is a little insight into some of the things we think about regarding Country music, rightly or wrongly. Some of the thoughts might be ‘hot takes’ others might be a bit more mundane and some might just be surreal and wildly off the mark, who knows!!!

  • As much as we love Dan+Shay’s ‘Bigger Houses’ album Restless Road might have made a better Dan+Shay album in ‘Last Rodeo’ than Dan+Shay have!
  • Morgan Wallen’s new haircut & picture make him look like he’s auditioning for a role in either the next Paul Blart: Mall Cop movie or as a young Tom Selleck in a ‘Blue Bloods 1971’ TV show.
  • Garth Brooks has announced his new album ‘Time Traveller’ and seems to have travelled back to a time in the 1980s when he had to put some real effort into getting an album. It’s available only in Bass Pro Shops and is being bundled with his two last studio albums and another live album. Gotta shift them units, we guess!
  • We all know that Dolly is releasing a Rock album but could Carrie Underwood be next? A summer of playing with Guns N Roses and now she’s just been announced as playing at this year’s Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction! Dolly’s rock album is a no from us but we reckon Carrie could channel her inner Pat Benatar real good!
  • Cody Johnson’s new album is out this Friday (November 3rd) but the cover is one of the most unsettling and unique album covers in a while. It’s a picture of Cody’s hand at the end of a day where he had been castrating cows. Nice!
  • The Country music Christmas songs are now coming thick and fast. Call us sentimental but if you don’t like Christmas music then that’s a big red flag as far as we are concerned and Country Christmas songs are just the best. Check out Scotty McCreary’s new one, ‘Feel Like the Holidays’ if you want to get yourself in the mood this year!
