Roblox has now been down for over 48 hours causing mass disruption for players all over the globe. Roblox regularly attracts millions of players on a daily basis and this outage is sure to be upsetting lots of people. There was a theory circulating that the issue might have been caused by a Chipotle promotion that involved giving away for free $1 million worth of free burritos. Roblox has since confirmed this is not the case and stated in a tweet that the issue is not due to any particular experience within the game.
In a statement made to Verge a spokesperson from Roblox stated “We are in the process of performing the necessary engineering and maintenance work to get Roblox back up and running as soon as possible. We apologize that our community is unable to be on Roblox during this time.” They also restated that the issues have not been caused by “external intrusion” and “We believe we have identified an underlying internal cause of the outage with no evidence of an external intrusion,”
This mass outage is sure to be causing stress for so many people around the world, especially the younger generations who make up a massive portion of Roblox’s player base. I know for a fact that my eight-year-old is feeling the loss as Roblox often helps keep him entertained on rainy days.
