With the announcement of new album ‘Room Under the Stairs‘, which is coming on 17th May, and the release of his new single ‘What I Am’ we thought it time to look back at the best solo hits of Zayn.
Since departing One Direction, Zayn has been making a career path for himself that’s a million miles away from his boyband days. His latest music sees him take a new turn, changing up his sound and moving away from the R&B that has dominated much of his solo output.
We’ve picked out our Top 5 songs from Zayn so far so keep reading to find out what we picked…
5. āSour Dieselā
One of eight singles released from Zaynās epic double album āIcarus Fallsā, āSour Dieselā stepped away from the mid-tempo R&B that has dominated much of his output, and injected a bit of rock. Those falsetto moments are incredible and it puts even more weight to the suggestion that Zayn really was the voice of One Direction.
4. āStill Got Timeā Zayn featuring PartyNextDoor
āIcarus Fallsā also produced this pop gem that saw the singer go uptempo for a pure summer jam. How the hell this wasnāt a bigger hit, Iāve honestly no idea. Itās catchy, memorable and that groove is incredibly funky. Zayn and PartyNextDoor play off each other throughout the track and I still have it on repeat today.
3. āVibezā
From current album āNobody is Listeningā, āVibezā is a slice of midtempo, mature R&B that showcases Zaynās voice at its silky best. Thereās no male vocalist out there today that has the tone and control that he does, and thereās so many layers to his distinctive voice. Turn this one up loud and chill out in the sunshine.
2. āPillowtalkā
The lead single from Zaynās debut album āMind of Mineā, āPillowtalkā is by far his most commercially successful. The song was a clever move for the singer, completely disregarding the teen pop of One Direction and putting his vocals at the front and centre. If anyone ever doubted his vocal talent, this song shut them up as his voice soared over R&B beats and a seriously sexy melody.
1. āBetterā
This lead single from current album āNobody is Listeningā should have been a HUGE hit. I actually donāt know whatās wrong with people when a smooth R&B slow-jam like this one, doesnāt race to the top of the charts. Zayn is in fine vocal form, riffing his way through to his killer falsetto. I get chills just thinking about this song. Itās grown-up, a progression from what heās done before and for me, his finest song to date.
