Curfew 1×04 preview

On the third episode of Curfew, having crossed the Thames the surviving teams had to find a way past the wall surrounding London.

If you’re not up to date with Curfew and like to avoid spoilers we suggest you don’t read any further.

The episode had much more of a horror vibe and began four years in the past, around the time of the virus outbreak. Faith (Rose Williams) was babysitting the kids of a pregnant mother who was off out to the opera for the night. The kids wanted to watch a DVD, when they put the TV on the news was reporting on a string of frenzied murders.

During the film, Snoopy, the family dog, wanted to go outside. She let him into the garden and he ran off barking. Faith checked her phone and her mum has sent her a message to say that there had been murders close to where she was babysitting. Suddenly the dog cried out so Faith rushed back inside.

She told the kids they were going to play a game and all hide downstairs in the basement to surprise their parents. While she looked for a weapon, Maxi (Toby Woolf) snuck outside to get the dog. She went after him and found that he had been bitten. She took him back inside and put him with the other kids downstairs. She went back upstairs to call for help and had the kids lock themselves in. As she made the call she could hear the kids screaming downstairs as Maxi attacked his siblings.

The police turned up and shot the kids to stop the infection spreading further. The mother returned as their bodies were being removed from the house. Faith tried to apologise, but the mother grabbed a gun from one of the police and killed herself. When the husband turned up it was revealed that he was The General! (Sean Bean).

Jumping back to the race in the present, The General crashed his car into a shop. Rather than check on the heavily pregnant Faith, he rushed to get the car back started gain. When he noticed Faith looked concerned he asked and she said she though something was wrong because the baby wasn’t kicking. He said she’d be fine and got back to racing.

Meanwhile, MED VAC 239 and Team Donohue were using Simon’s (Adrian Lester) folder to find their way to a tunnel that went under the wall surrounding London. The mother, Jenny (Andi Osho) worried that being underground would be dangerous as it could be full of Mooks (infected). Roman (Ike Bennett) said his father’s theory was that the Mooks would come out at night to hunt.

In MED VAC 239, Ruby (Aimée-Ffion Edwards) thought it was a stupid plan but she was outvoted by Kaye (Phoebe Fox) and Michael (Malachi Kirby). Ruby noticed the pair of them were getting on well together. At the tunnel entrance, Roman used a code from his father’s folder and the gates opened. They initially revealed a dark tunnel but some lights came on shortly afterwards. The two teams drove inside, leaving the gates open.

The General made his way to a friend called Clarence who had a lorry. He’d arranged for Clarence to take them through the wall. The General made Faith get out while he put the car in the back of the lorry. Clarence asked them both to get in the back of the lorry but The General insisted on driving. He went to put Faith in the back and explained that the lorry was transporting crates of Mooks to a medical research facility. Faith really wasn’t happy about sharing the lorry with the crates of Mooks. She turned around and could see one staring out of a crate at her.

The General started the truck up and began driving. Team Donohue and MED VAC 239 made it to the end of the tunnel. They got out so Roman could enter the code to open the exit gates. As soon as he tried the power was cut so he said he would have to find the backup generator.

While Roman went off to restore the power, MED VAC 239 picked up movement on their Aliens-style motion tracker. They noticed something moving toward them so Kaye charged the vehicle’s mesh pulse generator. A Mook was banging on the ambulance and then climbed on top. Kaye released the pulse and waited to see it if had worked. It hadn’t and the Mook climbed down to the front of the ambulance. Kaye charged the pulse up again and this time it worked and stunned the Mook. Ruby went outside with an assault rifle and made sure it wouldn’t get up again.

Roman got the power working again but then was nearly attacked by a Mook. He was saved by his mother who had come to check on him and fired several shotgun shells into it. They left the generator room with the Mook still in pursuit. Jenny made Roman go back to the car alone while she tried to reload and keep the Mook contained.

While Michael got the gates open, Ruby confronted her sister about still fancying him. Team Dononhue called for help to say Jenny was missing. Ruby answered the call and set off to try and help. She found Jenny had killed the Mook but that she had also been bitten. Jenny asked that she leave her and tell her family to continue on without her. Ruby did so and decided to stay with Team Donohue, upset at Kaye and Michael.

The General was stopped at a checkpoint before being allowed through the wall. They wanted his ID and then to see inside the back of the lorry. The General explained that he was transporting Mooks. Faith heard them coming so got out of the car and tried to hide. As she did so, she finally felt the baby kicking again.

When the guard entered the lorry he realised that The General was racing. The General pulled a gun on him so Faith revealed herself to try and save his life. The guard realised he knew of The General as they both came from Cleethorpes. He promised not to say a word and wished them luck in the race. Before he left he made an innocent comment which The General took offence to so he shot the guard dead.

The General and Faith got back into the car and tried to escape but came under heavy gunfire. Faith grabbed a couple of uzi’s and made short work of the rest of the guards in an impressive display. The General tried to apologise to Faith for his behaviour but she pulled a gun on him and said she would continue on her own. He got upset and said he’d hunt her down so she shot him through the head, apparently killing him. She then got back into the car and sped off.

At the end of the episode, Jenny made her way through the tunnels on foot. Suddenly, Team Awesome came speeding past and grabbed her. The episode ended with a terrified Jenny inside their camper van with Joker Jones (Billy Zane), El Capitano (Jason Thorpe) and Cheese (Guz Khan).

On the fourth episode of Curfew. Roman has a confession for Meg as he admits the real reason they joined the deadly street race. Kaye and Michael clash over whether to fight or flee.
