C2C: Country to Country 2018 – Lindsay Ell Spotlight Stage live review

2017 was quite the year for Lindsay Ell. After signing a deal with Stoney Creek Records, the singer, songwriter and musician released her album The Project, which was produced by Kristian Bush of Sugarland. After plugging away for years, Ell finally saw the fruits of her hard work as Waiting On You gained traction at radio. That single set the foundations for The Project’s release and follow-up single Criminal is already shaping up to be Ell’s biggest single yet. Last year also saw Ell come over to the UK to perform as part of Country Music Week and today she continued C2C: Country to Country performances on the Spotlight Stage.

Ell may have only had a short set (three songs in total) but boy did she make an impression. She opened her set, which saw her backed by a band, with Waiting On You and the funky groove of the song had the audience hooked. Vocally she sounded fantastic and her guitar skills were on full show as she effortlessly wowed with her abilities.

She changed the tempo with her next song by performing the ballad space, which features on The Project. Space really challenges Ell vocally and it sees her hitting some really difficult notes. She made it look easy and I really like the grittier tone to her voice when she pushes herself and belts. It’s proof that she could easily record a rock record in the future if she chose to do so.

For her final song Ell performed her current US single Criminal. For that track she fell down to her knees as she played incredible guitar riffs. The audience was mesmerised and in awe of her skills. She makes playing the guitar look so easy and you can see every inch of her body feeling the music as she plays it.

Earlier in the day at the press conference Ell promised she would be back very soon and judging from the reaction she got, there’ll be an eager audience waiting for her. Ell is a fantastic performer and a remarkable musician, and it’s so good to see her finally getting the recognition she’s worked so hard for. The future is very, very bright and I can’t wait to see the heights she’s going to reach in 2018.
