C2C 2018: Margo Price profile

Margo Price is a darling of the traditional country/Americana scene, and this year she makes her C2C debut. She’ll be performing on the main stage on Sunday 11th March at London’s O2 Arena.

An Illinois native, Price played piano and sang in the church choir as a child. After studying theatre and dance at Northern Illinois University, she dropped out at age 20 and moved to Nashville to start her musical career. In 2014, she was featured in Rolling Stone’s list of Country Artists You Need To Know.

Price first came to attention with the release of her debut album, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, in 2016. The album was released on Jack White’s Third Man Records label and was recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis in just three days.

Midwest Farmer’s Daughter found considerable success in the UK, reaching number one on the UK Country Albums chart and leading to Price making her UK TV debut on Later… with Jools Holland in 2016. She has also performed at Glastonbury and won a UK Americana Award for her song Hands Of Time.

In October 2017, Price released her universally acclaimed second studio album, All American Made. Price wrote or co-wrote all but one of the songs on the record with her husband, guitarist Jeremy Ivey. Many of the album’s tracks are politically and socially outspoken, with Price singing about issues such as the gender pay gap and the double standards female musicians are held to compared to their male counterparts.

All American Made reached number one on the UK country chart and follows on from her EP Weakness which was released in July of the same year. Price has noted the influence of the late Tom Petty on the album and has dedicated the record to him. Two singles have been released so far from the album – Weakness and A Little Pain. The album also includes a duet between Price and Willie Nelson on Learning To Lose.

Price is currently promoting the album on her Nowhere Fast tour with her backing band The Pricetags. The tour has been running since September 2017 and will finish in March 2018. Price will also play three dates at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville in May 2018.
