With a timely theatrical release on Judgement Day itself (Aug 29th), this 26th anniversary version of the action classic arrives on Home Entertainment platforms just in-time for Christmas. T23D gets a meticulously crafted clean-up and 3D conversion thanks to perfectionist director James Cameron (Titanic). It’s all here and jumping out at you through the screen in a restoration that looks stunning onscreen and reminds us all what an action-classic T2 is.

The film itself – well it’s as breathtaking as you remember it… a cultural benchmark packed with stunning performances, blistering spectacle, a sublime script and an unstoppable turn from Arnold Schwarzenegger (The Last Stand), who delivers his career-best performance here.

The plot, if you don’t already have it etched into your psyche, finds the teenage John Connor (Edward Furlong) a target for a new, much more advanced Terminator called the T-1000 (Robert Patrick). To protect him, a T-800 (Schwarzenegger) is also sent back in time by the resistance to protect him, as John, his mother Sarah (Linda Hamilton) and the T-800 try and prevent Judgement Day from ever happening.

Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong and Joe Morton are sensational and Robert Patrick has never looked as menacing as the deadly T-1000. The dynamic between the three central characters is what makes this so emotionally vital though. Furlong was new to film at this stage of his career and his instant rapport with Schwarzenegger still resonates strongly onscreen. Morton is never given his proper dues and for this small but pivotal role, he absolutely nails it as Miles Dyson. And of course there’s Arnie, who completely commands the screen and was simply born to play this role.

The 3D conversion is fantastic – in-fact it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen. The clean-up on the print married with the striking visuals in 3D really add something new to the mix. This is apparent right from the get-go, with the films iconic opening scenes brought vividly to life with a depth and clarity that makes everything pop. And yes, the Terminator foot crushing the skull right at the start still makes you jump!

Blu-ray Extras include T2: Reprogramming The Terminator – A 55-minute documentary including exclusive interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Cameron, Edward Furlong and many more, Feature Commentary with 23 members of Cast and Crew (1993), Feature Commentary with director James Cameron & co-author William Wisher, The making of T2. A 30 minute 1993 (from 2003 edition), Seamless Branching of the Theatrical version (137 mins approx.), Special Edition version (154 mins approx.) and Extended Special Edition version (156 mins approx). Deleted Scenes with audio commentary, the new T2:3D trailer (2017) and the T2 theatrical trailers – ‘Same make new mission’ and ‘Building the perfect Arnold’.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day 3D is an amazing production on every level. When you have a 5 star film it’s hard to see where you can better it, but Cameron and his crew have done just that. The film hasn’t aged at all, it’s still breathlessly entertaining and you’ll still want to rock out every time Guns n’ Roses ‘You Could Be Mine’ blares out onscreen. Terminator 2: Judgement Day 3D is a must-watch movie and a timely reminder of just how perfect a film it is.
