Following the release of their third EP Closest Stranger, UK alt-country duo Two Ways Home have been spending their summer touring the UK’s festival circuit. Lewis and Isi took to the stage at London’s Borderline to play a show at the Sunday daytime hub as part of Country Music Week.

Joined on stage by guitarist Michael Clancy, the band opened with Two Short Years, taken from their debut EP Wood For Trees. It had a nice balance of an uptempo melody with slightly downbeat lyrics and was a great showcase for their songwriting skills. They then moved into the bittersweet ballad Take My Hand, which particularly highlighted Isi’s delicate vocals.

Throughout the set the band showed off their versatility on songs such as the yearning Don’t Give Up On Me Tonight, which they sang with co-writer Logan Brill, and the atmospheric Better Days where Isi showed off the power in her voice. I also really enjoyed Lewis’ performance on the lilting Better Days – the song shows off the tone in his voice really well and he hit some serious notes!

Two Ways Home finished their performance with the folk-influenced Push And Pull, where they encouraged the crowd to sing along with them, and the upbeat Just For Now. Both songs really highlighted their harmonies and musicianship, particularly Lewis’ guitar playing, and it was clear that they were having a wonderful time on stage. They’re one of the leading acts on the UK country scene and based on this performance they’re going from strength-to-strength.
